My name is Ank, and I have been working as an Accounting Assistant at Oliver Healthcare Packaging for 13 years.
From small-scale to a growing company
Thirteen years ago, I was approached by a recruiter for various roles. What immediately drew me to Oliver was its small scale and personal atmosphere. At the time, only 20 to 25 people worked here. Now, it's a completely different story: Oliver has grown tremendously, and that's a positive thing. With growth comes more opportunities for personal development.
The role of accounting assistant
As an Accounting Assistant, my job is very diverse. I’m responsible for bank entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and creating credit notes. Our team consists of four people: I work with a financial analyst, a financial manager, and the International Controller. The day always starts with invoicing, followed by bank entries. The rest of the day fills itself with customer inquiries, bookings, and other ongoing tasks.
What I appreciate most is the freedom to approach my work in my own way. The longer you’re in a role, the more trust you earn to make decisions independently. That trust makes me feel truly at home here.
Humor, support, and an open atmosphere
What makes Oliver’s culture unique is the willingness of colleagues to help one another. Even if you have to ask the same question three times, no one gets irritated. This openness ensures that you never feel hesitant to ask for help. Humor also plays a significant role, especially within our team. Sarcastic jokes fly around regularly, and there’s always plenty of laughter.
A culture of support and connection
At Oliver, I feel supported both professionally and personally. One example that stands out is when I was dealing with a family issue. I was immediately given the flexibility to stay home and take care of everything. My colleagues’ reaction – “Take the time you need” – made me feel truly valued and supported.
Additionally, the interaction with colleagues is one of the most enjoyable parts of my job. Because I work with many different departments, I get a good sense of what’s happening across the organization. Communication is essential in this regard: as long as you keep communicating, you stay connected.
A life lesson
During my time at Oliver, I’ve learned a valuable lesson: when you make a mistake and feel terribly guilty about it, it can sometimes seem like a huge issue. You wonder, “How am I ever going to explain this?” But as soon as you bring it up, the response is often, “Were you really that worried about this?” It shows that you can bring anything to your colleagues. Most of the time, you stress more about it than necessary because, together, you’ll always find a solution. Mistakes are human, and at Oliver, we all understand that.
Balancing work and personal life
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and pursuing creative hobbies. I have three sons, one of whom still lives at home. I love having him there and wouldn’t mind if he stayed a while longer. In my free time, I enjoy walking my two dogs, crocheting, and sewing clothes, like for my niece.
The strength of Oliver’s culture
Anyone can fit within Oliver's culture. Oliver is an open organization, and as long as you respect everyone, appreciate what others do for you, and focus on the positives, things will work out for anyone considering applying to Oliver.
